Elevate Your Sleepwear: Chic Pyjamas for Women Over 50

4 min read

When the temperature drops, there is no greater pleasure than relaxing in a comfortable pair of pyjamas. Whether it’s a luxurious silk ensemble that feels amazing against our skin while we snuggle under our finest selection of blankets or a cosy and pretty set that wraps us in warmth, treating ourselves to stylish winter pyjamas is the epitome of indulgence.

Unfortunately, this is often the most neglected item in the wardrobe for us, midlife women. Maybe because after a long day, we are way too tired to care about what clothes we choose to wear to bed or simply because we have the impression that buying quality and pretty clothes for sleeping seems unreasonable, we often prefer wearing that old sweatshirt to bed or our husbands’ t-shirt and a pair of shorts.

What we forget is that feeling good on the inside sometimes comes from looking good on the outside, and a great night’s sleep may result from several factors, including what we decide to put on when going to bed.

Ultimately, wearing something fabulous and visually appealing does more than merely improve your appearance. It can help you feel special and deserving of the finer things in life, especially during midlife when we should embrace our confidence and own our style.

How to choose the best pyjamas

Finding high-quality sleepwear, however, can be challenging, considering the number of options available in the market. Playful prints, soothing colours, matching family designs—when it comes to choosing pyjamas, fashion may be a major factor, but it’s really comfort that’s key. So, stay away from cheap temptations. They might look cool at first sight, but most of the time they don’t last more than one season.

To ensure you find the perfect pieces that align with your style and preferences, take note of the following recommendations.

  • Invest in breathable and soft fabrics

When selecting pyjamas, steer clear of polyester or synthetic materials and instead, go for natural fabrics.  Cotton is widely regarded as the top choice for sleepwear. This soft and breathable material is not only durable and versatile but also comes in various weaves and weights to accommodate any season. Additionally, fabrics silk, linen, and wool are some of the best sleepwear fabrics that support a good night’s sleep. We also like bamboo, modal, and Tencel as they can regulate temperature, allow breathability, and wick away moisture, helping you manage night sweats and hot flashes.

  • Find the perfect fit

Selecting sleepwear that fits properly is crucial. Wearing tight clothing can limit your mobility, whereas loose clothing may lead to entanglement and discomfort during the night. Always prioritize comfort above all else to avoid any irritation or chafing that could disrupt your sleep. Also, pay attention to the seams and the cut of the sleepwear to ensure maximum comfort, as well as elasticity (the higher, the better). For entirely comfortable pyjamas, ensure that it is between 2mm and 4 mm per cm.

  • Prioritize quality

Considering the fact we spend a third of our lifetime sleeping, it’s easy to realize that investing in high-quality fabrics and styles is truly worthwhile. Opting for fabrics with a high thread count is highly recommended as it enhances the overall comfort of your pyjamas. With a higher thread count, you can expect a soft and smooth feel against your skin, minimizing any potential friction. For the utmost comfort, it’s advisable to explore pyjamas with a thread count of 600 or above, as this is where comfort levels are at their peak.

  • Upgrade your style

Regarding style, sleepwear comes in different types, from popular coordinated sets to sexy nightgowns. Each has its own pros and cons. So, always consider your preferences and needs. If looking great in your pyjamas is one of your top priorities, you may want to invest in high-quality pieces that you can easily mix and match to create a new set. In this case, buy separate tops and bottoms in colours and designs that go well together. Try pyjama sets in neutral hues like cream, navy blue, and white or cute pastel colours if you are unsure of which items to buy.

If you are in a phase of your life when all you need is something cheering you up, then don’t be afraid to play with patterns and designs. Experiment with different textures and feel free to consider bright colours like yellow, green, and orange for a more youthful and fun vibe.
