Style Notes: When In Doubt, Dress Like Jennifer Aniston

3 min read

Some lucky fashion lovers manage to find their signature look early on and hold onto it throughout their lives, adjusting and updating it ever so slightly to suit the changing times and trends. Jennifer Aniston, 52 years old, is one of those.

Her easy, breezy style is still quite captivating and no doubt it has influenced our fashion choices for some decades since her memorable role on Friends. No one can make the red carpet look as effortless as she does, and while some criticize her for rarely changing up her wardrobe, she is still on every best-dressed list (clearly, her style is only getting better with age).

Jennifer Aniston’s wardrobe staples

The star has never been one to follow trends. Simplicity and taste would be the two leading words to describe her look. Working with a very neutral palette, she sticks to the things that make her feel at her best.

From her sophisticated blazers to tried-and-true denim, read on to find out what are her wardrobe staples.

The little black dress

Nothing can beat a little black dress. The sophisticated staple is one of Jennifer’s favourites she can build countless outfits around it. To keep things fresh, Aniston plays with texture and silhouette. Sequins and leather are her favourites for big nights out, while casual moments call for something shorter whether formal or casual. She wears it with heels on the red carpets or with sneakers when shopping in town.

The classic combo: Jeans & T-Shirt

Jennifer Aniston has revealed the secret to finding the perfect tee: have it tailored for your body! Discussing her style with makeup artist Bobbi Brown for Yahoo Beauty, Aniston says that her jeans-and-tee look is just “laziness” but that her perfectly undone aesthetic doesn’t come off the rack. “This is my secret: the trick to t-shirts is I that I usually tailor them,” she says. “Which is silly, but it works. Or you just have to find the perfect one.” Amongst her favourite brands: James Perse and Theory. As for jeans (whether bootcut or boyfriend style, often medium wash), she loves pairs by Helmut Lang, Levi’s, Rag & Bone and Hudson but, “I take the pockets off of Hudson jeans because I like the fit, but not the pockets.” She often completes the look with a scarf and a long, tailored coat, flap shoulder bag and aviator sunglasses.

The evergreen blazer

When it comes to blazers, Jennifer Aniston is well known to go for a timeless style in muted tones. She knows how versatile this wardrobe staple can be: sometimes she leans into an oversized shape and wears it unbuttoned as a menswear-inspired piece when feeling casual, most of the time she brings forth her femininity with a fitted one to enhance her silhouette.

Jennifer Aniston’s favourite style: the black leather

Whether a black biker jacket, leggings, bustiers or mini dresses, Aniston has quickly realised that leather pieces can be sophisticated as they may give her basics an edge. Of course, she knows the art of combining pieces effortlessly: she makes the stylish and timeless leather jacket casual by pairing it with jeans and a white T-shirt, and when she wants to unleash her inner rockstar she adds a pair of glorious boots.

Minimalist accessories

None of her outfits are complete without accessories. Minimalism is the key to her look: you will see her mostly wearing white sneakers or black wedges (and yes, sexy heels), big scarves, a wide-brim hat or a fedora and sometimes a pendant necklace for a boho vibe. When not on the red carpet, she loves carrying all of her belongings on a black Louis Vuitton’s Coussin bag, a trusty purse that coordinates well with every look.
